Alice in Blunderland - March 2012 - Entertaining the people of Barford since 1945...

A Pantomime by Jane Scott

In March the group presented ‘Alice in Blunderland’ – a pantomime loosely
based on the story of Alice in Wonderland.

Alice met many of the old favourites such as the White Rabbit, the Cheshire
Cat, the Mad Hatter and March Hare, and also some new friends  –  singing and
dancing flowers and a gardener called the Ace of Spades, who produced magic
from his green wheelie bin.

There was plenty of enthusiastic audience participation, from the adults as well
as the children, especially in the croquet match. This took place between the
Queen of Hearts, the Duchess and the audience, and involved a large number of
brightly-coloured beach balls being hit, thrown and kicked in all directions on
the stage and around the hall. Once or twice the lights were hit by high-flying
balls but miraculously nothing was broken and a good time was had by all.

The production was very profitable too, (as it was written by one of our own
members there were no royalties to pay) so from the proceeds we were able
to donate £250 each to the Acorns Children’s Hospice in Birmingham and to
Zoe’s Place, a hospice for babies and very young children in Coventry.
